Matt Macgrotty
2026 Boys Coach
Defensive Coordinator Matt was raised in New Westminister, BC and played for the Salmonbellies growing up. He earned a scholarship to attend Bryant University and play for it’s NCAA Division I lacrosse team. During his time there, he was a close defenseman and started for three years. Upon graduation, Matt returned to Vancouver to work for investment firm Odlum Brown. He was also drafted to the Edmonton Rush (now the Saskatchewan Rush) and played in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) for five years, winning three NLL Championships. Throughout this time he also played for Langley, Coquitlam and Burnaby in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA). Matt has proudly played for his ancestral Scotland’s national men’s field lacrosse team in the 2014, 2018 and 2023 World Lacrosse Championships.
Today, Matt focuses on leading the defensive direction of Fusion West and also on investing and growing his clients’ wealth as an Investment Advisor, Portfolio Manager at Odlum Brown.
Favourite lacrosse memory?
Winning in the first round of the NCAA tournament my senior year by defeating Syracuse, and the team atmosphere in the locker room afterwards.
What do you do for your day job?
I am an Investment Associate, Portfolio Manager at Odlum Brown. I work with clients to build a plan focused on investing for retirement and other financial goals.
Reason you like coaching with Fusion?
Growing the game has always meant a lot to me and I feel that coaching younger athletes has allowed me to share my passion for and knowledge of lacrosse with them. It also helps me stay connected to the medicine game.
